Does shopping leave you feeling subdued?

via Daily Prompt: Subdued

We live in a small village (graduating class of 20ish.) We have a meat market, a dollar general, and a Caseys. Budget wise I’m left with a few decisions pay extra to shop in town or drive the ten miles to go to our nearest Wal-mart. It might seem like an easy choice but its not. The Meat Market is fresh and has soooo much more flavor than Wal-marts meat and of course Wal-mart always has a way of distracting the mission of the list.

Cut your average bill by using these tips I found on Pinterest

Strawberry roll ups – I rarely buy the roll-ups from the store the prices are insane and I’m not all about foods packed with sugar and preservatives laying around.

3 ingredient meatloaf – You’ve neglected the shopping this week.. Do you have a box of Stuffing, hamburger, and milk? Good you have meatloaf!

Cheesy garlic bombs – $2.50 for 6 breadsticks? Nope… not in this house.

Caramel green apple chips –

Freezer hashbrowns – Buy too many potatoes?

Dehydrate your potatoes

Perfect pork chops – should be pantry friendly except for chops and lemon

Easy ingredient exchanges -We have all had those “Oh crap Im outta….” moments

Vicks shower bombs – I haven’t bought these in forever because the price was insane

Avocado face mask – I’m the only one that eats Avocado and we always have that one banana that goes bad… PERFECT

These are only a few of my favorites. Do you have any budget friendly ideas?

Pinterest home remedies that work

Head cold “cure” – Simple.. pour Peroxide in your ears once in awhile to prevent colds or to ease a cold in the beginning of one. I will admit, this MIGHT be a fluke. Yesterday, I felt like hell, my face felt like it had been bashed in and I couldn’t breathe. This morning, I still felt like my face was going to explode. I found this gem this afternoon and was like “nah.. not gonna work but…….. I will do anything but take pills.” Husband started with my right ear which is the side that felt bashed in. Normal fizzing…. then some good massaging bubbling… it felt AMAZING. Left side, just normal fizzing. Results were pretty quick! Is it completely gone… no, I still have a very slight cold fog. What I do not have is the pressure, the sniffles, any other sign of a cold. I will call this one a win!

More to come…..

My Favorite Splurges

Foods –

Dove chocolate BBQ sauce and cocoa Rub – *I am NOT with this company* – It’s worth every bit of the $24! Shipping is a bit pricey at around $8 but if you buy several things it evens out. I used the BBQ to make pulled pork, hubby didn’t have a chance to “ewww” the chocolate because I hid the bottle, lol. The Rub I used on chicken legs and it was a hit.

Dove Cocoa Roma Pasta sauce – Again… a bit pricey at $18 BUT makes AMAZING sloppy joes or pulled pork.

Mullen’s French Dressing – Monicals Pizza started my obsession with this dressing! If you can find it at your grocery store it is cheaper. If not… you can buy 2+ bottles at a time from the link.

“I’m Hungry” – Easy recipes for all meals

I love trying new things! Problem…. my husband is picky and my bonus daughter thinks because daddy doesn’t like it she won’t. Honestly, I am 8-0 on foods she’s actually tried. My secret…. I usually try to keep her out of the kitchen so she has no idea what I’m cooking (Its usually about the ingredients with her) and she tries it before she eats it. She claims to hate BBQ sauce but by fibbing and telling her it was a marinade until her plate was clear.

Here are some recipes I have found on Pinterest and they are Keesling household approved.

Texas toast french Toast – I made a few mistakes by not trimming the crust off and by dividing in two- 8x8s. I ran out of bread on the second dish and had to halve two slices, this one was amazing. I’m guessing the first dish was just too stuffed. My Husband is not a breakfast person but had two!

Garlic Parmesan Potato Wedges – These are soooo delish! My Husband said they are the best he has EVER had. We had them with Sloppy Joes.

Better than Fries – Super Duper easy and delish

Main course-

Italian Sausage Pasta – There were ZERO leftovers!

Iowa Breaded Pork Tenderloin – Better than any Fair tenderloin I have ever had!! I did not use Panko bread crumbs though… I used Italian seasoned breadcrumbs

Bacon Cheeseburger Bombs – I forgot a few things on my shopping list.. cream cheese, mustard, and cheddar cheese. I did sub with Mozzerella. Hubby says they were okay (I added too much worstershire cause the lid popped off.) He thinks they will be amazing when the recipe is followed.

Crockpot lasagna –

Couponing that makes sense….

Let’s face it we all spend a ton of money that we do not need to spend! Here I will give you a few tips on how to save some of that money. I can’t promise you Extreme coupon results but you will save money.

  1. Buy a 2 inch binder and a pack of baseball card sleeves. Keep all of your coupons in order by date, area, etc. As you shop, pull the coupons for the items you have in your cart into the sleeve on inside of binder.
  2. Price match as often as possible.
  3. Use the Walmart savings catcher app
  4. Do not buy an item just because you have a coupon. If you can get something you are just as satisfied with for cheaper buy it instead. If you choose to pass on the coupon tuck it next to the item on the shelf for the next person (there are perks I will get to later.)
  5. Always check the clearence isile first for best deals.
  6. Buy the smallest item allowed on the coupon for the best deal.
  7. Use sites like to print coupons instead of MyPoints uses Coupons.coms services but they track the coupons you use and you earn points to cash in for gift cards. If you follow tip #4… even if you do not use the coupon but someone else does, you get the points. With MyPoints you can earn more points by doing surveys, refering friends and more. I have done this several times and gift cards arrive quickly.
  8. Do not buy directly from websites like Wal-mart, Sears, Bath and body works, etc. Again… use You can get coupon codes to use online AND get back a percentage of what you spent in points. They add up quickly.
  9. Use clipping services like to order insert coupons. I think I paid $6 for 77 coupons many were $1 or more off.
  10. Use your perks cards if they are available in your area.

What are your tips?
